Telluride, CO - The Telluride Ski and Snowboard School has announced a new youth ski and snowboard program named "The Telluride Development Squad", the goal of which is to instruct and promote the sport of skiing to children in a fun and safe learning environment. The program will instruct kids ages 3-14 over a two and a half month period of time, beginning Saturday, January 9.
“We are truly excited to offer this exceptional kid’s program,” said Fred Rumford, executive director of the ski and snowboard school at the resort. “This is a tremendous opportunity for kids in the region to develop a lifelong love of skiing and riding in a program that promotes team building, mountain safety and learning in a non-competitive environment."
The program runs three Saturdays in January, three Saturdays in February, and concludes with instruction both Saturday and Sunday the first weekend in March. The 3-6 yrs. age group is skiing only, and all ability levels are welcome. The 7-14 age group must ski at a level 3 ability (able to ski chair 10 making controlled wedge turns) – or snowboard at the level 4 ability (able to link turns on chair 10).
Groups are organized by ability level, then by age. The cost is $480 for eight weeks of instruction, lunch included. The registration deadline is December 15, 2009. A season pass is recommended, as lift tickets are not included in the instruction fee. For more information, call (970) 728-7354.
