Indiana Ski Area Already Making Snow

Perfect North Slopes in southern Indiana made snow last week testing their new snow making gun from Latitude90, which the company claims can make consistent snow when the temperature is as high as 77 degrees.
The ski area posted pictures of its snowmaking test on their Facebook page over the weekend. They said, “Yes, we have snow in October! We're testing the new all-weather snowmaking system from Latitude90 and SMI Snow Makers that arrived at Perfect North Slopes just in time for the 2024/25 ski season. The snow is the result of the machine's first use, and will produce even more in the future.” They were inviting people to come see it for themselves at their Annual Sale and Swap slated for November 1-2.
Latitude90 says on their website the snowmaking system will allow smaller ski areas to navigate iffy weather more reliably with a snowmaking system that can churn out white stuff even when it's as warm as mid-to-high 70s.
The company pointed out that Ski Ward a small 45-acre ski area with a 220-foot vertical, nine trails, eight tubing lanes and four lifts near Boston used the system last season and was the first top open lift served skiing in October. They plan to open for the season November 1 this year.
Perfect North, located about a half-hour from Cincinnati, is one of the premier ski areas located in the lower Midwest and always one of the first to open for the season. The family-owned ski area started 40 years ago, and today offers a 400-foot vertical drop, 23 trails, five chairlifts and multiple surface tows. It feels more like the ski areas located in the upper Great Lakes. They also offer 25 tubing lanes, one of the largest in the Heartland.
Another plus for Perfect North pass holders was their acquisition of Timberline Mountain, located in West Virginia, a few years ago. After making a significant investment in the resort it offers 40 trails with the longest being a little over two miles, a terrain park, three chairlifts and a surface tow. The mountain tops out at 4,625 feet and the ski area offers a 1,000-foot vertical drop, which should be a big attraction to Perfect North skiers. The two areas are only about 380 miles apart, which would be around a six-hour drive. It would make a great weekend trip from the Midwest's Queen City, and Perfect North pass holders receive half-off on Timberline lift tickets.
