Indy Pass Introduces New Options for More Affordable Winter Sports

For many, the finances of winter sports are a prohibitive barrier to progressing beyond the bunny hill. This season, Indy Pass is making entry to the sport more affordable for newcomers and leveraging connections with independent shops to bring affordability to all levels.
With the “Learn to Turn” Pass, newcomers will get three total days of lift access with rentals and lessons included for $189. Every current Indy Pass holder will also receive two shareable $40 discount / referral codes, lowering the price to a remarkable $149. This initiative makes introduction to the mountain much more affordable, and even more so for friends and family excited to share their love with someone hesitant about the cost. “At one point or another everyone reading this was dependent on someone else to introduce us to the sport.” said Indy Pass Director Erik Mogensen in a press release earlier this month. As single day lift ticket prices soar, this critical project ensures that the love of winter recreation continues to be shared.
Starting their journey with a lesson allows first timers to build confidence, and learn how to navigate the experience of mountain flow, lift operations, and etiquette. “A manageable and welcoming independent resort is the perfect place to make those first turns,” Mogensen continues. Local hills like Pat’s Peak in New Hampshire, Sunlight Resort in Colorado, and Crystal Ridge in Wisconsin are big enough to allow progression but small enough to keep from getting lost or overwhelmed. The Learn to Turn pass is currently accepted at 30 resorts, and Indy expects that list to grow.
In addition to opening the sport to new participants, the Indy Pass is also adding new locations. This season, 43 new resorts are joining the Indy Pass. Located in 10 different states and 14 countries, these new mountains put the total options on the pass at over 270 resorts worldwide. Expanding into Eastern Canada and Europe, affordable independent skiing is now available on 5 continents.
Another initiative to improve affordability and the overall health of independent business is Indy’s partnership with the association of Winter Sports Retailers (WSR). By flashing a pass at participating shops, Indy Pass holders will get discounts up to 15% off regular priced equipment and apparel, and 20% off ski and board tune-ups at checkout. “Independent ski shops compete with corporate groups and big box retailers, and we welcome this alliance with the only pass that represents like-minded ski areas,” said WSR Board Member, Stefan Hausberger. Mogensen adds “If independent ski areas are the heart and soul of skiing, then independent ski shops are the backbone. This partnership is a win for small businesses, everyday skiers and riders, and the Indy movement.”
We all have a role to play in keeping skiing independent, and riding affordable. Indy Pass makes this easy. Passes are still on sale until September 18 and close to sold out for the season. Buy yours here, share the joy, and pray for snow!
