Old man winter has been a little more friendly to Michigan's ski resorts and ski areas this season. Heading into late March and early April several plan to remain open, depending on the weather of course. It's been a much better winter this season compared to last season when many closed in early March.

Most of the northern Michigan resorts are also offering good deals on lodging and some on lift tickets. With the longer days and daylight hours allowing for some excellent late day skiing and riding it's the perfect time to get out and enjoy some great spring conditions. It's been a cold winter and the daytime warmth is an added bonus this time of year.

Boyne Mountain plans on staying open well into April and maybe early May, which they have done a couple of times in recent past winters. I've skied there the first weekend in May before. Boyne Highlands is also doing well and full open at this point. Carnival Weekend takes place this coming weekend at the Mountain. The Highlands will be keeping their winter music schedule for a couple of more weekends and planning a festive St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Treetops has received over 15 feet of snow, and offers ideal spring conditions with all trails open, and nearby Shanty Creek is in a similar condition with it's Schuss Mountain. Both are offering some nice attractions like special room deals and lift ticket incentives.

At Crystal Mountain you can enjoy end-of-season savings on lift tickets, rental equipment and even room rates from as low as $127 per night. All 59 trails are open and in prime condition. They plan on staying open well into April. They have special themes planned for each weekend the rest of this month and into April.

Caberfae closest up north ski area for southern Michigan and Indiana and Ohio snowsport enthusiasts had had one of their best winters in recent years. The slopes are fully open and their lodging facility has been filled most of the winter.
