Red Lodge Mountain Hosts First Annual Snow Rodeo

Red Lodge Mountain tips a Stetson to its cowboy roots with the first annual Snow Rodeo on Sunday April 13. The three-part event includes the Saddlebag Slalom, Giddy Up Downhill, and a Denim Fashion Show.
Corduroy Cowboys and Powdered up Cowgirls are invited to compete in the one-of-a-kind spring hoedown. Known for hosting one of the largest summer rodeos in the west since the 1890’s, Red Lodge is no stranger to buckling up the boots and strapping in for a rowdy romp. “We’re looking forward to celebrating our local cowboys and cowgirls with this new annual spring skiing and riding event,” said Troy Hawks, Marketing and Sales Director at Red Lodge Mountain.
The Snow Rodeo races will take place on Miami Beach at the top of the Stache Express. In the Saddlebag Slalom, competitors face off two-at-a-time traversing a downhill course including barrels to navigate, a lasso feature, and more. The Giddy Up Downhill will be a mass start stampede of up to 20 racers at a time who must successfully clear a 30-foot-wide jump on their way to the finish line. Top racers will be awarded 2025/26 lift tickets or season passes. With blistering steeps, Red Lodge is known to be home of some true blazing saddles, so competition promises to be gritty.
Once the trail dust has settled from the races, local favorite Chad Lore is playing live music on the Bierstube Deck at 2pm. Feast your belly on duck rangoons, and feast your eyes on views of the mountain until the Denim Fashion show unfurls for your delight at 4pm. Awards will be given for the Best Denim in adult, child, and group categories.
The entry fee for the first annual Snow Rodeo is just $10, and includes afternoon lift access to the Stache Express for racers who don’t already have a lift ticket or season pass. Competitors will sign up in the courtyard on the day of the Snow Rodeo, including a safety meeting and mandatory pre-race gear inspection.
Whether you compete or not, spring storms have been known to dump fresh flakes on the rugged terrain of Red Lodge Mountain well into April, so the Snow Rodeo promises to be a great day for competitors and casual skiers and riders as well. With a peak elevation of 9,416-feet, the views of the surrounding ranch land are breathtaking. Red Lodge Mountain boasts 1,635 skiable acres across 70 runs, which will take your breath as well. Home to Montana’s second largest snowmaking system, Red Lodge Mountain ensures excellent trail coverage late into the season, so saddle up and hoe-down for the first annual Snow Rodeo!
