Want To Ski In Midwest Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend in the Midwest usually means celebrating with picnics, barbecues and breaking out the shorts to enjoy the day. This year you might be able to include skiing at Boyne Mountain and Mount Bohemia
The Mountain might just make it this year. They have stayed open into May before, but never that late. This year's excellent winter has made it possible, and Boyne isn't the only Heartland ski area that plans on skiing into May. Mount Bohemia plans on trying to make it as well. They are still open on Saturday and Sunday through this month and possibly into May.
What a difference a year makes. Last year's low winter snowfall had many Midwest areas closing in March and most had given up by early April. This year Bohemia has received over 300-inches so far, and it's been known to snow in May that far north.
Boyne Mountain logged more than 30 hours of snowmaking in March and added a few more hours of April snowmaking on Victor stockpiling over 280-inches on what they are calling, “the Victor Glacier.” They are planning on being open for weekend skiing through Memorial Day weekend.
“We are still making snow during the week and maintaining the trails for weekend skiing,” marketing director Kari Roder told the Petoskey News-Review recently.
Boyne and Bohemia have a friendly competition to see who will be the last Midwest ski resort to close.
Lutsen Mountains also frequently stays open on weekends into April, and they have added a couple of more bonus weekends to close out this season. They will be open this weekend and again the weekend of April 25-27.
This has been one of the best Heartland winters in recent years, and is still going. Much different than last year when winter barely made an appearance. Get out and enjoy a few more days on the slopes.
