Back To Back Snow Storms Rock the Upper Midwest Krista Holden calendar_month Mon Mar 16 2026 menu_book 2 minutes reading time (258 words)

The theme this season, at least in Minnesota and Wisconsin, seems to be a big snow storm followed by spring temperatures and riding days followed by another big snow storm. This past week the upper midwest was hit with back to back snow storms, the first dropping up to a foot of snow in the northern half of Minnesota and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A few days later another storm rolled through gracing the Upper Peninsula down through a good portion of southern Wisconsin with 1-3 feet of snowfall reported. If the snow alone wasn't enough, the winds that came along with it created blizzard conditions accompanied by travel advisories and poor road conditions. Once the roads were cleared after each storm, it was some epic midwest pow riding for those who could shovel out. Granite Peak reported "More than two feet of snow has buried Rib Mountain during one of the biggest storms Wausau has seen in decades." and even got a clip of someone fat biking to the resort with their board strapped to a backpack! When you get a two foot powder day in Wisconsin, you find a way to get to the slopes and get those pow turns.

The next couple days look to be on the chilly side before we get warm temperatures again - get out there and enjoy this great snow while you can! And after that have fun in the slush and the sunshine. It's going to be a great spring for all the local spring time events (and pond skims!)
