Big Sky Retires Original Chairlift Making Way For New Gondola

Big Sky is taking it's iconic Explorer 2 chairlift out of service after 51 years. It's the resort’s sole remaining chairlift from its 1973 opening, They are offering offering 125 chairs for sale to the public with all proceeds from the chair sale to benefit three local nonprofit organizations.
The Explorer 2 chairlift was one of four original lifts installed when the resort first opened in 1973. It's being retired to make way for the new 10-person Explorer Gondola, which is scheduled to open in December of this year. The sale presents a unique opportunity to own a piece of Big Sky ski history and will help support vital community organizations. All proceeds from the chair sale will be evenly distributed among three nonprofit organizations; Big Sky Community Housing Trust, Gallatin River Task Force, and Wellness in Action The sales takes place March 20 at 10 am. "The old chairlift has been a fixture at Big Sky Resort for over five decades, carrying many generations of guests," said Troy Nedved, the resort’s president and COO, in a post. "We're excited to give these chairs a new life while giving back to three critical organizations in our community."
