Granite Peak Puts the Boots to it at Take a Hike Competition Krista Holden calendar_month Fri Feb 27 2026 menu_book 2 minutes reading time (253 words)

One of my favorite things about the Midwest are the all the creative ways people make getting outside in the winter fun, specifically creative competitions. The latest unique event to take place was at Granite Peak, located in central Wisconsin, and called Take a Hike. In a world of fast paced rail jams where competitors get in as many laps as they can in a given time frame, the folks at Granite Peak found a fun way to slow things down with out limiting the amount of times you hit a feature. To begin the "hike-style terrain park jam" as stated on their instagram, participants gathered at the top of Upper Dusky which is one of the area's three terrain parks. Once there, the group moved from feature to feature deciding which one to hit next but moving one at a time as a group. With judges along the way as skiers and riders tackled different features including various rails and a jump, hiking back up after each hit. No rope tow or chair lift laps for this event! Over thirty people showed up to hike around the terrain park for their chance to win a cold hard cash prize and for the inaugural Take a Hike event, that's a great turn out! As teased on their instagram "Make sure to keep up with our event’s schedule to see what’s coming next" I believe we will see more out of the box events from the crew at Granite Peak.
