New Ownership At Ragged Mountain Pledge To Keep Mountain's Soul In Tact Josh Sullivan calendar_month Wed Dec 24 2025 menu_book 2 minutes reading time (287 words)

Skiers and snowboarders don’t really like change.

Why else would we all complain when Olympians add another degree of rotation to their spins in the halfpipe, or nearly riot when paid-parking is implemented at a resort? New ownerships are no exception. Us regulars started going to certain ski areas for a reason, and we’d often like to keep it that way.

The group of local investors who have purchased New Hampshire’s Ragged Mountain get that, and they’ve promised to keep the mountain’s character in tact as it makes improvements going forward.

The Concord Monitor’s Jonathan Van Fleet revealed as much in a story in November. The new ownership group of the Danbury mountain is called SF Mountain Co., and led by six close friends. Many of them grew up skiing at Ragged, the mountain with a vertical drop of 1,250 feet, 60 trails, and just 30 miles from Concord, the state capital. It’s often overlooked by neighbors like Waterville Valley and Loon Mountain Resort, but because of its close proximity to Concord and its fewer crowds, it is the place to be on a powder day.

Season passholders will retain access to Jay Peak, Wisp, Mt. Washington Alpine Resort, Wintergreen and Powderhorn, just as the previous owners offered. As for the future, the group will focus on improving the skiable terrain, as an expansion to nearby Pinnacle Peak is in the plans.

“Ragged has come a long way in the last 18 years, and I’m proud of what we’ve built with our team,” general manager Erik Barnes told Van Fleet. “This transition brings in a group that deeply understands the mountain and the community around it, and I’m looking forward to helping carry that vision forward.”
