Ski and Ride for free at Storrs Hill Ski Area

At a time when lift ticket prices at many mountains are as eye watering as the frigid winter walk across the parking lot, Storrs Hill Ski Area makes an investment in the future of skiing and riding in New Hampshire: free public lift tickets, all winter long.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne foundation, the general public can ski and ride at no cost on Friday nights, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Storrs Hill Ski Area General Manager Cory Grant says, “We hope this initiative brings neighbors together and inspires a love of skiing in a fun and accessible way.” Also serving as the President of the Lebanon Outing Club, Grant is deeply involved with stoking the love of winter in the New Hampshire/Vermont border town. Far from being the biggest mountain, and certainly not touting the gnarliest terrain (unless you count the t-bar run), Storrs Hill Ski Area deserves your attention for being one of the oldest ski resorts in the US, and now, the most affordable.
In addition to skiing and riding for free this season, another long-time Storrs Hill tradition is returning: ski jumping! Running this year on the 50-meter hill, learn more about the fearless high fliers on the Eastern Ski Jumping facebook page. The resort also offers classes covering the basics of BackC ountry skiing, telemark skiing, and of course, jumping. Dig in to the rich history and affordable offerings of this Granite State treasure in this December 12 press release.
The Lebanon Outing Club (which funds the operations for the hill) hopes that this is just the beginning of “ski for free” campaigns. Staffed by volunteers from concessions to ski patrol, Storrs Hill Ski Area truly is a community effort. The LOC is looking for supporters of that effort to ensure that Lebanon, NH maintains its unique place in skiing history.
Founded in 1923, the alpine section began literally as a commuter trail from the farm on top to the city below. Through many expansions, improvements, and upgrades over the past century, the Byrne Foundation has been a long-time partner to this cornerstone of the community. Additional thanks goes to the Tomapo Farm and the City of Lebanon for land use, and the generosity of all donors for their continued support.
Skiers and Riders can live free and slide during the no-cost public hours listed below. Just show up, scoop a lift ticket, and get out there! Lessons are available at an additional charge. While Storrs Hill does not have rentals available, visit Omer and Bob’s nearby for all of your winter sport needs.
